It's officially Fall! Pumpkin Spice Lattes are Back

Despite the fact that this is the third week of law school, last night when I stopped for some caffeine at Starbucks before my Lawyering Process class, I realized it's really fall.

The Pumpkin Spice Latte is back, Baby!

I promptly ordered a Grande Nonfat Light Whip Pumpkin Spice Latte-- my favorite Starbucks drink ever. Since I worked at Starbucks for (gasp!) almost 3 years, trust me I've tried all of the drinks, and this is the winner by far.

I tried to describe the drink recipe to my mom this morning. She lives on the cattle ranch in the middle of Nebraska so has no Starbucks within a 300 mile radius. So she lives vicariously through me.

"It's like a piece of pumpkin pie in a cup!"

But this liquid ambrosia isn't as cheap as it once was.

Starbucks, in the light of a tough economy where fewer people have the extra coin in their pocket to splurge on luxuries like expensive coffee, has RAISED their prices.

According to a New York Times article, some people will continue to buy the more expensive coffee,

"Connie Williams, 57, a saleswoman in Los Angeles, is one of those customers. She said the price changes would not affect her daily habit of buying a 12-ounce nonfat cappuccino “with a little shake of chocolate” at Starbucks. “I’m hooked,” she said. “It’s like asking a cocaine addict, ‘If I raise my prices, are you going to buy less?’ ”

While Starbucks raised prices on many drinks, they dropped the price of their small cup of plain coffee by 5 cents. So it looks like the only thing this poor law student will be getting in the future is a simple tall coffee-- not the sugary goodness I love.

While the economy is tough, I plan to save my pennies for important things, like paying the electricity rather than buying my Pumpkin Spice Lattes...

... and I'll probably save myself a few extra holiday pounds as well!

With no shame I admit, I am one of those people that continue to buy overpriced Starbucks coffee! It's not just the coffee though (or pumpkin pie in a cup-dinner-latte). Its the people, the place, the change. Starbucks hires (in my experience) some of the nicest folks around. Moreover, its place to sit, crack open my laptop and TUIE (Type Under the Influence of Espresso). It remains as my last retreat...

You know, my dad ends up putting so much cream and sugar in his tall cup of daily brew with room for cream that he ends up making his own latte. Or I bet you could ask for a shot of flavor with your cup of coffee and then add cream later... but yeah. The raised prices sucks.

One of my friends just posted on FB this morning that the pumpkin was back and we have a date to go get some tomorrow. I'm excited!
I have a Starbucks problem, having 5 within a couple miles of school and having spent 4 years in college in a place 45 minutes from the closest one...so my strategy is that I have a Starbucks card that I pre-load with the amount I'm allowed to spend on the Sbux each semester. When it's gone, it's gone. I was actually surprised that, being more thoughtful about it, I never once used the entire card last year. So, this year I lowered the amount and will try not to spend more than that.
I still get my Starbucks, but I don't spend all my money there :) Poor law student, party of one!

I judge when seasons have officially arrived by what is featured at Starbucks as well. When the Gingerbread Latte makes it appearance, I will believe only then that the Christmas season is upon us ;)
Are you a 2L or 3L? I still have to take my Lawyering Process class... and stop by my blog when you have some downtime. I left a little goodie for you on my post today!!
